Uyuni Salt Flat

It is the largest continuous high salt desert in the world, with an area of 10,582 km² or 4,085 square miles). It is located at about 3650 meters above sea level in the southwest of Bolivia in the province of Daniel Campos in the department of Potosí, within the altiplanic region of the Andes mountain range.

The Salar de Uyuni is the largest lithium reserve in the world with 50-70% of the world’s lithium, and also has significant amounts of potassium, boron and magnesium.

It has maximum dimensions of 10.7 km long by 9.6 km wide with an area of 54 km² and an average depth of 35 cm.

Located 50 km south of Laguna Colorada, this is the highest sector in the region. At an altitude of 5000 m.a.s.l., the place is characterized by the presence of craters that produce constant volcanic activity, with boiling lava and fumaroles that give off sulfur gases. and wells that produce vertical emissions of water vapor normally reach heights of 10 to 50 mTS and, exceptionally, from 80 to almost 200 meters in height.
